Wow. Please note the passage of time.
4:40:55 PM Kat: hey L.I.A.R.?
4:41:02 PM Luke: yes?
4:41:10 PM Kat: can you find this mp3 that i just blogged about a few minutes ago on one of your secret blog sites?
4:41:13 PM Kat: I can only find it on myspace
4:41:39 PM Luke began sending freelancehellraiser_wedontbelong.mp3 (5105664 bytes)
4:41:44 PM Kat: wtf?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So from the time that I sent the link (not mentioning the band name or anything) to the time he located the file on his hard drive and was already sending it to me - 29 seconds. How is that even possible?!
And the fact that he knew of/had the song at all ... wow. Luke Is Always Right indeed.
A ridiculous amount of stuff to write about. A panoply, if you will. A quick rundown:
- Iggy, a jade tree plant that I bought a while back, finally died last week. The plant has the distinction of having lived the longest under my care. 62 days, to be exact. I have no fucking idea why I can't keep a plant alive, especially one that can apparently NOT be killed as long as you water it 'once in a while'. I misted it every day, kept it in light, and watered every few days as instructed!
- CMW last week (the week before?) was a blast - the best highlight though was the ohbijou/Under Byen show @ Mod Club on opening night - after that, everything else paled in comparison. After the show, the first song to play in the venue was The Knife's "We Share Our Mother's Health", one of my favourite recommendations by Luke. Then there were the after parties, where I met tons of cool new people and talked hours on end about wicked music. Oh, and the dancing. My LORD, the dancing! Geoff, Jason & I attended a balls out dance party DJed by Shit La Merde, Cadence Weapon and k-os (I think?) - it was sweaty and entertaining, and not only because 80s prenatal yoga videos hosted by Richard Simmons were being projected on the wall throughout. My body DID stay awake through it all, but I was seriously sleep deprived all last week!
- More Much.com debauchery took place at the Green Room last week, where we appropriately welcomed Dan to our team, tortured Alberto, argued, laughed, and indulged in cheap burritos (that surprisingly did NOT cause food poisoning aftermath) & booze. But - WENDY FORGOT HER CAMERA! And we all know that without Wendy taking pics, there is no photographic evidence of anything ever having happened. So you'll have to take my word for it that we had a great time.
- Attended a fun shag this past Friday where I drank teal jell-o shots and listened to great music (PJ Harvey, The Arcade Fire, Oasis!!) supplied by the groom-to-be. I also nearly broke my neck chasing after Evan when he decided it'd be a fun idea to SPRINT five blocks to the venue in fresh snow. Afterwards I indulged in some more amazing music-based conversation with friends at Erin's 28th birthday party in Roncesvalles. I got so many music recommendations that I was pretty much transcribing the entire conversation with notes about stuff to listen to.
- Not surprisingly, about 70% of my friendship base was completely obliterated and passed out (if not in bed, then in a booth at a bar or on the street) by 7pm on St. Patrick's Day. My moment arrived at approximately 3am, but I got a super late start. I was still feeling it the next day when I showed up disoriented at Ana's for a scrapbooking session.
- I finally replaced my #266 brush!!! It's been missing for a week and seriously, my face hasn't been the same without it. Own one! (if you're female and want to look more beautiful!) On my way back from lunch today I spotted this AMAZING dancer from MisShapes a few months ago that I had already accosted once before, and nearly spit, I was so excited. He broke out into dance when we recognized each other. <3
OK, another, separate post about Test The Nation is on its way. Too much fun, so it warrants its own entry!
The new Cut Copy single that Luke pointed me to is INCREDIBLE (see also: Luke is always right). You must hear it - grab it here. I can't wait for these guys to tour again - last time I saw them, they opened for Franz Ferdinand in the cavernous Ricoh Coliseum and I ended up being one of only ten people in the nearly empty stadium rocking out to their infectious grooves since their set started so early. I picked up Bright Like Neon Love for a sinful $3 in a used bin at She Said Boom on Roncesvalles. The fact that it was priced at only $3 is just diabolical. Shame on She Said Boom!
Recently:
Friday - briefly attended the Lords Of Hogtown pub crawl that Billy organized, then headed to Sneaky Dee's, where I saw a wicked showcase consisting of Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin and Chin Up Chin Up. Such a great show! Another very late night.
Saturday - Party @ Tanya's house where I met lots of great people, partook in a Beck/JT dance party in a cleared out living room, cuddled a polydactyl cat, covered myself in chalk (apparently I was ), quizzed a pediatric intern from Sick Kids' Hospital, smoked a J, screamed at the absurdity of this video. When I got home the lock on the front door to my house was frozen and I could hardly get my key to go all the way in. Once I did, I drunkenly forced it so hard that it broke off IN THE KEYHOLE. I had to ring my poor neighbour's doorbell and thankfully she was awake enough to hear it and let me in. I had to call my landlord to replace the whole lock!
Yesterday I recorded a SECRET CONFESSIONAL in a special booth set up for Sarah Taylor here at work. She suffered a skull fracture last week and has been recovering in ICU ever since. Recording the message was very strange.
Tonight: Scrapbooking 101 Workshop @ Scrapbooks By Design! I'm pumped for this. There are about ten people going thanks to super easy event feature on Facebook!
Who remembers Sarah Polley as Ramona Quimby in the 80s TV series about the books by Beverly Cleary?
Yesterday at 11:10am, I made my daily phone call to the Lululemon store on Queen Street to see if they'd received any shipments of the Classic Mini Gym Bag (wow, I just went to link to it on Lulu's official site and I see it's been removed from their site - discontinued?!). The salesgirl said that yes, in fact, someone had JUST returned a bag moments earlier when the store opened. I squealed (literally) and slammed the phone down to rush over to buy it. The chase for this bag has been ongoing for two weeks now - calling every store in the city, trolling Craigslist and eBay (where I was outbid at $280 on Sunday) - EVERYONE wants this frigging bag. Anyway, I'm happy to report it's now in my hands!
The next item on my hit list is Christian Dior's Diorshow Unlimited mascara at Sephora, if it's ever in stock. The hunt continues.
Last night I was able to unload my iPod Mini through a Craigslist ad for an impressive sum on the condition that I load it up with some cool new music I'd been listening to and a few podcasts (Ricky Gervais Show being one of them). Sold!
Thanks to Othello's recommendation, I just ordered this t-shirt. The anticipation for its arrival just might kill me.
Three Random Thoughts:
- Holy shit, Luke is always right. The Thin White Duke remix of "Four To The Floor" by Starsailor is deadly. Acquire it NOW.
- No one should ever be named "Chad". How can you take a Chad seriously?
- Currently unimpressed by: the expiration date on my passport being 4 days before I go on vacation.
