Getting home at dawn rules. Waking up at 3pm though, does not. I had full intentions to go running and partake in some yoga at around noon but my body felt otherwise. I have to be at a pre-Bloc Party party in three hours.:S
Another epic day was enjoyed yesterday - an insane amount of activity was rammed into one 24 hour period - and I pretty much mean the full 24 hours.
It started with a monster brunch at Joy where I consumed a sickly amount of breakfast foods. Wendy documents it well here but in a nutshell, I had my own breakfast, plus two colossal 'pancakes' on a dare. Then we headed over to Monica & Andre's to engage in some wii-ing and Bakeathon V (theme: peanut butter and chocolate), when we successfully inaugurated Megan into the baking club! I think we made a total of seven or eight desserts. Epic!
Then I had just a few hours in which to rest up before heading out again - the evening started with a cool house party where I arrived with a sampler tray of baked goods (always a good idea!). From there we headed to Unit for a birthday bash, where my heart almost burst upon arrival - Daft Punk's "Around The World" was playing. Amazing song to arrive to!!! And so much other good stuff throughout the night - Plaid, Cut Copy, Chemical Brothers, Royksopp, etc. Then an out of control loft dance party/clothing swap where 50% of the guests were topless, including, for a brief moment, one of my own entourage! Ha! And then the finale, a few intense rounds of dominoes, edamame with tons of salt (not himalayan pink, unfortch) and great conversation.
Somewhere in there we stopped off to Pizza Pizza to grab food - there's always hunger at around 3:30am! The scene at Pizza Pizza was fairly desperate. There were about twenty people in there and everyone was arguing. The owner kept shaking his head and waving his fists wildly to indicate that the oven was off and no more pizza would be made. As I assessed the situation, I saw people around clutching their stomachs with pained expressions on their faces. One guy was like "I'm so hungry - we've been driving around for two hours looking for a place to eat!" and another said "I can taste bile rising up in my esophagus. I just need something to eat." It was total mayhem - like we were stranded in some wasteland with a major food drought. People started getting uppity and yelling obscenities - I truly find it outrageous that places like this don't stay open later. 3am is prime time for hungry people to be getting out of bars looking for something to soak up all the beer they've consumed. Why not extend hours till 5 or something?! Anyway, the pinnacle of that scene took place when a guy started waving money in front of a girl who was about to bite into her pizza - "I'll give you $50 for that slice! I'm so hungry, man! Help a guy out!" I've never seen anything like it. As Rich said last night, Toronto needs WAY more late night places. I think I'm going to start carrying around a 24 Hour Guide To Toronto with me so I can avoid situations like this. Ridiculous!!!
